Canadian multi-talented artist Chad Vangaalen is good at many things, meaning he can do a lot more than writing an album. He wrote and animated a sci-fi movie, for which he composed soundtracks, some of them present in Shrink Dust. Lyrically, the album explores the description of a monster’s feelings from a human point of view.
Of someone waking up one morning and realising he has become a curious creature. The quest is figuring out what sort. Quite abstract, yet grotesque, it says: “Ripping my eyelids a little bit wider are two prying hands that grew from my shoulders and I can’t explain why, but it’s hurting my eyes”.
For the occasion, Vangaalen purchased an aluminium pedal steel guitar, which took some time to master. Its’ sound can be however easily noticed and the result of his efforts is obviously successful.
