Q & A
How did you become involved?
Visiting Tim McMillan during his reign as music director over at the Nedlands studio, seeing the likes of Pete, Mal, Genge and Barr having way too much fun. In the first six months or so you would have found Simon and myself stumbling around doing the zombie shift Monday 1am – 6am until we got our heads around presenting issues like dead air, technical difficulties and incoherent drivel and got a shot at a DriveTime slot.
How long have you been with RTRFM?
Started on Music Mix mid ’03, Moved to Drivetime early ’04 and also presented Breakfast and Soulsides.
What do you enjoy most about presenting?
Representing RTR: being involved with an independent media outlet, having an opportunity to air alternate points of view and being able to direct what we play. The big fringe benefits are the proximity to current music releases, DJ talents and inspired musicians who maintain my awe at people who are musically gifted.
Strangest experience at RTRFM?
Generally these go hand in hand with my co-host Simon from him nearly being run over in a live traffic cross at the corner of Beaufort and Walcott, to the first recorded on-air seat squelch, to joining the chorus of the trailing moments of the bird calls from the Travelling Birds soundtrack… Good times good times.
Favourite RTRFM programs?
Waking up with Pete, the many styles of Full Freq, OTL, Posted, Global Rhythm Pot and the new programming of Youngblood and Bass Check.
What do you do in real life?
I’m currently between real life’s and trying to stretch it out for as long as possible, before another real life smacks me right in the face.
