Presenting

Since moving to Perth from Glasgow in ’02 I’ve had various involvements in the local Perth music community. Opportunities such as being a member of the Drum Media Perth team, putting on music events and also DJ’ing at club nights and festivals has provided an exciting and ulterior backdrop to my other life in the corporate sector. Having the chance to be involved with presenting the Full Frequency and Trainwreck shows at RTRFM 92.1 is something that is perhaps the most enjoyable of all.

How did you become involved in the station?

Not long after playing a guest DJ mix on Trainwreck I was asked by Declan and Dr. Gonzo if I wanted to come in and be a co-presenter on the show. Since then I’ve went on to present the Tuesday Full Frequency show having taken over from Massiv Trav upon his departure to conquer the Berlin and Parisian techno circuits.

If stuck on Mars, what five albums could you not go without?

  • Space Is The Place – Sun Ra
  • Space Oddity – David Bowie
  • I Hear A New World: An Outer Space Musical Fantasy – Joe Meek
  • I Am The Urban Spaceman – Bonzo Dog Band
  • The Songs Of Distant Earth – Mike Oldfield

What is the best thing about being involved in the station?

The chance to play music to a like-minded audience that you yourself spend a lot of time researching is integral to being involved at RTRFM. And when listener’s phone into the studio to inquire or commend specific tracks or artists is also great as well.

What is the strangest thing that has happened to you at RTRFM?

Most probably the time when Tuesday Drivetime presenters Simon, Anth and myself dressed up in full drag for the inaugural Glamourdrive show in early 2013. Having converted the car park at the back of the RTRFM station into a pyrotechnical wonderland which encompassed trapezes, glitter cannons, 15 Liberace impersonators and also a large selection of homemade capes for the hundreds of listeners that showed up on the night, it would definitely have been one of my more memorable experiences at the station.

If you could present a show other than your own, which would it be and why?

Posted. Because alongside Full Frequency and Trainwreck, it’s probably my favourite programme on RTRFM.

What do you do in real life?

I work as a Civil Designer and also host Full Frequency and Trainwreck on RTRFM 92.1.
