Dave ‘Spud’ Murphy
I am originally from Dublin, but have been here for 17 years and I would consider myself as dinky di an Aussie as most. I have always got a real kick out of music and it has always had a good effect on me. I don’t really give a rats about the lyrics, it’s just always been about the feel or the flow of the tune(I know, a bit flowery).
Now I love nothing more than to introduce my kids to some of the stuff I like and bounce around our living room.
How did you become involved in the station?
A guy I used to work with introduced me to RTR in 1996 and I began listening to Full Frequency. As time went on I got more and more into the whole station. I found out that the station ran a training course on broadcasting, so I thought I’d give it a crack. I haven’t looked back since.
If stuck on Mars, what five albums could you not go without?
- Marvin Gaye – Let’s get it on
- Earth Wind & Fire – Anything at all
- The Four Tops – Nature Planned it
- Doris Duke – I’m a Loser
- Jill Scott – Beautifully Human
What is the best thing about being involved in the station?
Some really decent passionate people. Getting complimentary phone calls during the show.
What is the strangest thing that has happened to you at RTRFM?
Some of the people in the station.
If you could present a show other than your own, which would it be and why?
Sunday Morning Coming down – It is my next favourite show after Soulsides. There is nothing better to listen to on a Sunday Morning, pottering about the house.
What do you do in real life?
I run my own Painting and Decorating business.
