Presenting: Trainwreck

I have been involved with RTRFM since about 1995 when I was asked to fill in on the overnight Powerjam show on Sunday nights. Over the years I have presented Looney Choons, Full Frequency Thursdays and Trainwreck on Saturday nights.

I am a collector and lover of electronic and alternative music, passionate about community radio and have been DJ’ing in Perth’s clubs, bars and parties since about the mid-90’s as well.

How did you become involved?

Through amazing DJ’s such as Ben Stinga, Chase and Rhys Evans who helped establish RTRFM as a force in electronic music in the 1990’s. I was also heavily influenced by the sounds of Shamus who presented the Auditory Spiral show very late on Monday nights.

If stuck on Mars, what five albums could you not go without?

An extremely difficult question to answer, which changes from day to day! Five albums that come to mind:

  • Black Science Orchestra – Walter’s Room
  • Mogwai – The Hawke Is Howling
  • Marvin Gaye – What’s Going On
  • Nu Yorican Soul – Nu Yorican Soul
  • Boards of Canada – Music Has the Right to Children
  • Sabres of Paradise – Sabresonic
  • Orbital – The Brown Album

What is the best thing about being involved with the station?

The mind-blowing dedication of all of the presenters, volunteers and staff who dedicate their time and energy to the station. Also the ability to discuss and share new music with fellow presenters.

What is the strangest thing that has happened to you in the RTRFM studio?

The time when Aarom and Craig didn’t argue about who next week’s guest on Trainwreck should be…..

If you could present a show that is not your own, which show would it be? Why?

Ambient Zone – I think it’s a brilliant show and am glad that its now in an earlier spot on Sunday evenings. The perfect way to wind down at the end of the weekend.

Golden Apples – to get a chance to play some of the other music that I collect. Its another great addition to Sunday afternoons on RTRFM.

What do you do in real life?

Collect music, listen to music, bemoan the Perth Glory results, ride my bike, read books, enjoy red wine and other stuff.
