I believe being silly is a really important part of taking life seriously. I like interviewing because I like people, and I think audio is a really amazing medium for telling peoples’ stories. I listen to billions of obsessively-crafted podcasts and try to make stuff in that vein myself. Sometimes I also write for student-y publications about student-y things.
How did you become involved in the station?
A UWA internship unit–I became an assistant producer to Mr. Peter Barr. When my time finished I just stuck around. No one’s kicked me out yet.
If stuck on Mars, what five albums could you not go without?
- Mos Def – Black on Both Sides
- OK Ikumi – Outside
- The Strokes – Room on Fire
- Joni Mitchell – Blue
- Kendrick Lamar – To Pimp a Butterfly
What is the best thing about being involved in the station?
The people. So many cool folks work here or pass through here, with so many different perspectives.
What is the strangest thing that has happened to you at RTRFM?
Walking in after someone who will remain unnamed had finished up their show and being confronted by a warm wall of farts.
If you could present a show other than your own, which would it be and why?
The Mag! I like talking to people, and it’s probably the talkiest show.
What do you do in real life?
I’m the Environment Officer for UWA’s Student Guild as well as a regular student. I’m about to go off and become a teacher in the Northern Territory through Teach for Australia–and when that happens I’m going to miss RTR a lot.
