Presenting: Ambient Zone
Started a love affair with synthesiser music of the late 70s and early 80s after collecting records from a very young age. I have been fortunate to witness the evolution of electronic music and to date enjoy coordinating and sharing it on late nights every Sunday.
How did you become involved?
Many blue moons ago, in the early 90s not long after 6RTR had been resurrected from the ashes of 6UVS, and after a 2 year stint on 6NRs Late Nite I contacted then manager Kath Letch and was introduced to the founding collective of Ambient Zone. I also presented a former Thursday night program called Round Midnight for a few years with Chris Wright.
If stuck on Mars, what five albums could you not go without?
- The Goblin – Suspiria
- Steve Hillage – Green
- Carl Craig – Landcruising
- Weather Report – Weather Report
- Kraftwerk – Man Machine
What is the best thing about being involved with the station?
Getting to share rare music that does not normally get a broadcast outlet with complete freedom.
What is the strangest thing that has happened to you in the RTRFM studio?
A complete power blackout in the studio during the show.
If you could present a show that is not your own, which show would it be? Why?
Contrary to common belief I do collect lots of music that is not techno or electronic. I have a large collection of music from various genres and perhaps if I was to do a different type of show Id probably do something different go for a LOUD one – so Burning The Airwaves would be my choice. I do have a lot of garage and punk records I can drag out to play happily.
What do you do in real life?
I work in business sales and account management, and when Im not then you would find me travelling to remote locations to dive.
