I work in both music and visual arts…and really into science too…so winding and tripping over down all these paths at the same time.. Master of none!
I started out djing with the Milk Crate Crew and opened a little indi hip hop record Store with Dan the Man many moons ago, and at that time we put on lots of tours too. But these days my main focus is radio, art, djing and teaching.
How did you become involved in the station?
Oh damn. Umm..I have been at RTR since 1998 I think! I used to listen to the station all the time and ring up for shout outs on Dan the Man and T Bone’s Tuesday Full Frequency show..haha.. I met Dan a year or so later and he suggested I should go and do the training course as I’d just started DJing too and was a huge fan of the station already–with boxes and boxes of tapes of Full Freq, and Underground Solution. I started with the All City show (which was called Getting Hectic then) with Bebo-and at the same time we started the Milk Crate Crew, an all girl DJ crew with Scorchio and Kate Moss. From then on I filled in lots for of shows from Out to Lunch to Rhythm Trippin’, Drastic on Plastic and Black and Blue but then did a longer stint on Full Freq filling in for Echoic then Mal and Saxon and finally Dan the Man let me on Tuesdays with him! Haha..We did that show together for many years till he left to Triple R in 2009 and now I’m solo styles.
If stuck on Mars, what five albums could you not go without?
TOO HARD!! Sorry.!!!
What is the best thing about being involved in the station?
The people and the music. The most incredible people that are both involved with the station, the artists who make the music and the listeners- all are so generous, committed and passionate about music and the community surrounding it. Every time I do my show I get overwhelmed by the crazy positive energy and dedication of everyone involved with the station. It’s a real privilege to be able to share the music of these people with these people. (Does that makes sense?)
What is the strangest thing that has happened to you at RTRFM?
When I was teaching Mason from Paper Plane Project the desk while he was in training for the All City show and the desk and lights started turning on and off like a poltergeist was there..so scary!
If you could present a show other than your own, which would it be and why?
Underground Solution because they have definitely been one the single biggest influences on me musically from the very beginning. I filled in on the show once when they were all in Europe– but it was terrifying!! They are all too amazing I can’t come close!
What do you do in real life?
I work in the Art Dept of a University as a technician and teach there too..I DJ on the weekends and try and work on my own Art when I can.
