Q & A

How did you become involved with the station and your program?

In 2004 I started volunteering on reception, in the CD library and generally helping out about the station. I was very interested in radio and wanted to see how a station worked from an insider’s perspective. In a nutshell, it turned out that I was in the right place at the right time – the station needed new presenters and I was keen to learn. After getting trained up and doing a couple of midnight shifts, I filled in on Out to Lunch for Tim McMillan when he left RTR and am still there two and a half years later!

How long have you been with RTRFM?

Since 2004…

What do you enjoy most about presenting?

The music, and the idea that I’m forging a connection with people, the listeners, over something as simple and wonderful as sharing a good tune.

Strangest experience at RTRFM?

I once opened the mail to find that Genge (pre-Barr Breakfast presenter) had posted a chopping board to RTRFM by addressing the front of it in pink texta and putting it into the mail bag… There was no message on the back and no one seemed to know what it meant.

Favourite RTRFM program/s?

I can listen to RTR at any time and appreciate it. I get my updates on the world from Morning Magazine and get zen with Full Circle… but I really enjoy tuning into the specialist music shows on RTR: I have a secret penchant for Mo-Town and love Soulsides. Rock Rattle and Roll is also extremely cool!

What do you do in real life?

I am finishing my BA in Philosophy, English and Media. I teach guitar, attempt to write and am trying to figure out what kind of ‘real job’ would be least likely to crush my artistic spirit into tiny, apathetic smithereens.
