Stories by this Presenter
Q & A
How did you become involved with the station and your program?
I started by volunteering on reception and helping out at gigs, then I completed the Presenter’s Training Course that lead me presenting Snooze Button, Music Mix and Open Closet. I now pester presenters of programs like Woodstock Rock (Thursday, 7-9pm) to take me on as a guest and they graciously acquiesce on occasion. I also burn bucket-loads of midnight oil on Up Late (Tues-Thurs 1-4AM) and Snooze Button (Tues-Thurs 4-6AM).
How long have you been with RTRFM?
‘Round about Radiothon, 2007. It was mad magic!
What do you enjoy most about presenting?
Pigging out on alternative music, new and old, sampling other people’s tastes, acquiring some, and being able to maybe add my own flavour to the menu. I also enjoy pumping tunes through the studio speakers in the wee small hours!
Strangest experience at RTRFM?
Thinking of all the sweet spots this noise hits i.e. in the air, in my cans, in someone else’s head, … in Helsinki … real time, live streamed, re-streamed. And, when I started presenting a talk-back gay and lesbian program, Open Closet at midnight on Mondays, solo and as a heterosexual. I soon realized that labels just keep the Closet Closed and sexuality is often a transient perception.
Favourite RTRFM programs?
I’ve had many a serendipitous experience listening to various RTRFM programs over the years. But since it was Woodstock Rock that first turned me on to RTRFM, I confess to having a soft spot for it. Can’t wait for more 60s/70s psychedelic/prog/protest/underground music to be refreshed, regurgitated, remastered, remixed, re-released, reissued and sampled. Digg it.
What do you do in real life?
Write, design graphics, desktop-publish, nurture my own garden and wait for the next uprising.
