When I started going to local gigs and enjoying local music, I began listening to the once obscure RTR, and realised a lot of the Perth/ WA bands got played on there. A friend of mine had already done some work experience there so I sent in a volunteer form and started producing Artbeat with Peter Barr!
If stuck on Mars, what five albums could you not go without?
- Red Hot Chili Peppers – By The Way
- Caribou – Swim
- Arctic Monkeys – Humbug
- Brian Jonestown Massacre – Bravery, Repetition and Noise
- The Strokes – Room On Fire
What is the best thing about being involved in the station?
My first Radiothon for sure! Meeting so many different people – listeners, presenters and other volunteers. We were all in this room, keen to be there because of this common love for RTR, there was something just really heartwarming about the whole experience.
What is the strangest thing that has happened to you at RTRFM?
Probably watching the towering body of James Blake calmly glide through the office, as I peered in awe and made eye contact with him over the office cubicle I could see how awkward he felt.
Safe to say I didn’t ask for a photo or an autograph, just said a brief ‘Hi’.
If you could present a show other than your own, which would it be and why?
Soulsides, easily the grooviest smoothest any time tunes that make me wanna dance and be happy but make me feel relaxed all the same.
What do you do in real life?
I express my creativity through making pretty burritos and other delights at a local Mexican joint on Beaufort Street.
