Midnight Special

Thursdays 11-1am

A late night talk show that changes every week with a new host and a different topic.

Special guest/s will hang out live in studio, providing good chat and occasional performances between tunes. Or there’ll be a music-themed focus with a presenter taking the listener through a particular genre, era, band, geographical location, etc. We’ve had chefs talk about their favourite tunes, sound collage interviews about dreams, audio recordings from festivals, podcast episodes about MIDI tunes, on-air live karaoke, movie soundtrack focused shows, and so much more!

Whatever the week, you can always count on it being something special!

Forget sleep, stay up, and listen to the Midnight Special On RTRFM.

If you're a fan of Radiohead, what is their worst song?

What was the most embarrassing tune that Paul McCartney released?

Who failed at rapping more - Lou Reed or Debbie Harry?

These questions and more are answered on our special topic-based show 'THE WORST OF THE BEST', a celebration of the missteps, failures and bum notes of our favourite musical artists, the worst songs by the best musicians. We have a crowd-sourced selection of "worst" suggestions that we played on air and analysed, finding some to be underappreciated and actually not the worst, and others that could be completely flushed down the toilet. Underwriting it all is a love of music and the intense discussions that can result from it!

Our special panel includes writer Jasmine Uitermark-Thaung from The Ink Grid, singer Hugh Manning from Shit Narnia and special insights from Doctor of Music, writer/musician Adam Trainer from Original Past Life. We'll also settle our song poll - Robert Downey Jnr or Billy Bob Thornton - who do the people want to hear the music of?

This is a lot of fun!
