Ban the Bag: Government plans to restrict Plastic Bag use in Australia

Environment Minister Stephen Dawson says plastic bags are a blight on the environment and he may ban them.

The move could see WA follow the lead of several states around the country who have already implemented bans, including Tasmania, the ACT, South Australia and the Northern Territory.

Efforts in the past by the City of Fremantle have been unsuccessful on more than one occasion – former Premier Colin Barnett not supporting it.

Deputy Mayor of Fremantle, Ingrid Waltham joined the discussion to outline why this has been the case, and how the project is being pushed nonetheless.
