BRITTANIA: Living amongst The Age of High-Quality TV Drama

Thursday 1st February / presented by Chris Mason

Brittania is the new programme exploring the second Roman invasion of Britain in 43 AD.
Loosely based on historical events; the show also deals with contemporary issues faced between Britain/European tensions post-Brexit.
It’s also worth noting that Game of Thrones has played a part in influencing Britannia‘s production, following the success of the HBO T.V. epic-drama.

So, when it comes to the small screen, are we about to see a change in focus?
Coming in at a time where the relationship between historical fact and fiction is hotly debated, how does mediaeval period dramas like Brittania rank up against similar successful shows… Such as, say, pop culture phenomenon Game of Thrones?

Joining us to discuss the implications of this show and others like it, as well as implications involved within a world of high-quality T.V, is Course Coordinator of Communications and Media, and also the Discipline Coordinator for Film and Screen Production at Notre Dame University, Mr. Michael McCall
