Call for Nuclear Action

Monday 7th November / presented by Jane Hebiton

Last week – by a vote of 123 for, 38 against, and 16 abstaining — the First Committee of the UN agreed “to convene in 2017 a United Nations conference to negotiate a legally binding instrument to prohibit nuclear weapons.”

U.S. allies such as Japan, South Korea, Germany were not in favour.

And neither was Australia.

What was the atmosphere at the United Nations like during this time?

And what’s it mean now?

Australian peace activist and politician and a former senator for Western Australia Jo Valentine was on the scene, and joined Jane Hebiton on The Mag to discuss further.
