Climate Change Cash Cost

More than 100 world leaders were in New York today discussing the need for urgent action to be taken on climate change.

The United Nations Climate Summit hopes to create a meaningful global agreement set to begin next year.

The summit comes as Australia’s scientific research agency, the CSIRO, revealed that global emissions of carbon dioxide had reached 36 billion tonnes last year, a new record.

The last time world leaders met to discuss climate change, was five years ago, at the unsuccessful Copenhagen climate conference in 2009.

Oxfam says that since then, climate-related disasters have cost the world half a trillion dollars, with more than 112, 000 lives lost, and that we can no longer risk inaction.

Oxfam Australia Climate Change Policy Advisor Simon Bradshaw joined us to discuss the economic impact of climate change…
