Commit To Community Radio

Wednesday 20th February / posted by Chris Wheeldon

In the last federal budget there was a 1.4 million dollar shortfall for funding for the Australia Digital Radio Project. This is a project that enables not for profit community radio stations the chance to broadcast on the digital spectrum.

The funding shortfall, if not rectified in the next federal budget, will lead to the shutting down of multiple digital radio signals for community radio stations across the country. As a sector, community stations can not afford to fall behind their commercial counterparts.

February 20th 2013 is the start of a national campaign to bring the shortfall to the attention of the wider public and force Senator Conroy to rethink his budget cuts. Joe Cassidy spoke to the Director of the Digital Radio Project Phil Shine about the campaign.
