Fracking Fail Says Conservation Council

Wednesday 4th November / presented by Paul Hunt

Fracking for natural gas is safe and WA has nothing to worry about – at least according to the state’s top public health official.

The Health Department’s executive director of public health Tarun Weeramanthri says he’s confident WA’s geology as well as stricter regulations make hydraulic fracturing – also known as fracking – safer here than in the eastern states.

But environmental and community groups disagree, accusing the State Government of ignoring major health and environment concerns.

Several anti-fracking campaigns have started calling for a moratorium on fracking in WA.

Conservation Council Director Piers Verstegen spoke to Paul Van Lieshout Hunt about the issue.
