Heritage Listing for Rock Art

Wednesday 1st March / presented by Em Burrows

One of Australia’s most significant Aboriginal art sites could be given World Heritage listing.

Premier Colin Barnett is calling for the Burrup Peninsula Aboriginal rock art to be nominated for UNESCO World Heritage status, becoming the first cultural site in Australia to do so.

Home to more than a million Aboriginal rock carvings, the peninsula would become Western Australia’s third World Heritage listed place, along with Shark Bay and the Ningaloo coast.

Greens MLC Robin Chapple has campaigned for this recognition for many years and today spoke to Em on The Mag.
