Local Governments and Social Enterprises
Social Enterprises are not in our everyday vocabulary, however, they provide a valuable resource within our community.
Essentially, they’re organisations that combine some form of economic enterprise with some form of social mission, rather than direct profit generating.
A recent study by the Australian Centre of Excellence for Local Government has outlined the potential for stronger relationships between social enterprises and local government – two groups that primarily aspire to the same goal of supporting the community yet, in practice, often have very little cross-over.
The Centre’s Mary Duniam is Co-Author of ‘Social Enterprise and Local Government: A Scoping Study’ and joined Rewi on Morning Mag.
