Mistreatment at Nauru Detention Centre Caused by Aus Government

Thursday 2nd November / posted by Chris Wheeldon

The media spotlight that's currently on the Australian bureaucrats after they decided to overrule the decisions of medical doctors has been shocking.

The events that took place on Wednesday at the Nauru Regional Processing Centre saw the centre's food, water and power supplies being cut off after it's closure Tuesday afternoon. This left approximately 600 Refugee and Asylum seekers having to physically dig for their own water as conditions worsen, and tensions undoubtedly rise. The abuse that these people have suffered (people who are desperately in need of medical treatment) is being dealt with with a sense of  impunity and indifference by our very own government; and it's simply -not- okay.

Natasha Blucher is the acting Manager for Detention Advocacy at the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre in Melbourne. She joined us on the phone earlier to discuss this mistreatment in finer detail and what we, the public, can possibly do to help.
