In the 2013 Federal Budget Community radio throughout Australia were hoping for a tiny 1.4 million dollars to continue to fund the Digital Radio Project in all its forms. Unfortunately the funding was not received which leaves the future of digital radio in the Community Radio sector in jeopardy.

Senator Stephen Conroy launched the Digital Radio Project in 2011 to fanfare and back slapping, less then a year later he had cut the initial funding claiming that Community Radio can fund itself for the short fall. This shortfall will lead to some digital signals across the country being switched off.

The future of the sector is now at risk without the ability and chance to change as new technology comes on line.

Jude Reczek spoke to CBAA President Adrian Basso about the loss of funding and where to now for the campaign.
