$5.5 million dollars of the federal budget has been allocated to encouraging parents to vaccinate their children.
Those who don’t may have almost $30 per child witheld from their fortnightly Family Tax benefit.
But evidence shows little growth of opposition to immunisation, with current non-vaxers more driven by logistical, socio-economic hardship, and limited access to vaccinations.
The effectiveness of the penalties have also come under scrutiny.
Professor Peter McIntyre from Sydney University joined The Mag in the discussion.
