No Peace For Trees

The Tasmanian government and environmentalists are up in arms over the Abbott-led Government’s decision to delist a section of Tasmania’s World Heritage Area.

The Government has asked the World Heritage Committee to remove about 74,000 hectares of 170,000 that was added under Tasmania’s historic forest peace deal.

There are now fears the loss of the hard won forest peace deal between environmentalists and the Tasmanian timber industry could tear open old wounds within local communities.

Tasmanian Greens Leader Kim McKim says the move is extreme and is with me this morning…
