Old Growth, New Beginnings

Friday 17th March / posted by Chris Wheeldon

John Kinsella is an author and poet from WA whose work consistently features the Western Australian landscape.

He’s the author of 30 books and is the three-time winner of the WA Premier’s Book Award for Poetry. He’s a fellow at Camebridge’s Churchill college, the editor of international literary journal Salt, and self-describes as a vegan/anarchist/pacifist.

Recently he came out with a book of short stories called Old Growth, which drops us seamlessly into the worlds of men, women and children at pivotal moments in their lives.

In one story, a husband who has lost his wife plans to destroy the old-growth bush she loved and escape to the city, with alarming consequences.

In another, racism at a small town supermarket is resisted through friendship.

John Kinsella joined Artbeat.
