Protecting The Helena Aurora Range

Tuesday 4th July / presented by Kylie Sturgess

For the second time, Western Australia's environmental protection watchdog has rejected plans to mine rare iron formations in the state's north.

The iron is embedded within rock in a series of bands, a unique formation extremely rare on Earth.

The Helena Aurora Range also contains huge biodiversity assets and cultural artefacts for some Aboriginal Australians.

RTRFM"S KYLIE STURGESS speaks to the Wilderness Society State Director JENITA WILLIAMSON about what the second rejection means, as well as growing support for a new nature reserve.
