Senator Heads to Manus Island

Thursday 27th April / presented by Chris Mason

On Good Friday, a shooting took place on Manus Island, and we’re no closer to an answer as to what happened.

Thus far, explanations of the shooting have been conflicting, with Immigration Minister Peter Dutton stating that it’s “indisputable” that shots were fired by soldiers concerned about the welfare of a young boy.

However, Manus Island police commander David Yapu has said the boy was not related to the shooting and there were no concerns for his welfare.

Greens Senator Nick McKim plans to head to Manus Island uncover what really happened, following Peter Dutton’s refusal to release additional material under the grounds that it’s considered classified information.

Nick joined Chris Mason to discuss the case and to unpack Mr. Dutton’s role in this recent event.
