Support For The Sportsman

Thursday 23rd April / presented by Tanya Bunter

Have you ever been verbally abused at work, had somebody call you every name under the sun just because you happen to be doing your job particularly well?

If you’re a professional sportsperson, you probably have, most likely from someone on the other side of the fence.

And have you ever gone to watch a game and let fly at someone on the field?

Sports fans are passionate people and sometimes that passion spills over onto the arena.

Some say it’s all part of the fun and, to professional sports people, it should be water off a duck’s back.

But is it?

Can verbal abuse really be ignored by even the highest paid players, or does it affect them on and off the field?

Psychologist Jodii Maguire joined us to talk about the effects this can have.
