The Humanitarian Group

Over the past few years, thousands of people in Perth who have entered Australia by boat to seek asylum have been denied access to funded legal assistance and to add to the stress of seeking asylum, the Australian government threatens to cut all support to refugee’s unless they submit their claim in just 60 days.

While community legal Centre ‘The Humanitarian Group’ has commenced a free legal clinic for people in this situation, the waiting list is rapidly rising.

So three individuals involved in the group have stepped up to make sure asylum seekers get the legal assistance they need by setting up a crowdfunding campaign, which is rapidly gaining support.

Em Burrows was joined on The Mag with CEO of the Humanitarian group, Helen Pearce, Former asylum seeker and law graduate Ali Kha and the coordinator of the crowdfunding campaign, Libby Williams to talk about this campaign.
