Understorey: Nagasaki- The Atomic Afterthought

Wednesday 13th August / presented by Elizabeth PO’ Adrian Glamorgan

The atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki on 9 August 1945 was intended for another city, and another day. Although an atomic afterthought, the consequence was deadly and longlasting. Understorey goes to Nagasaki memorials and meets people on the streets and laneways who tell their atomic story.

The “past is the past,” but Junko Kanekiyo, Curator at the Kyoto Museum of World Peace considers the wider history of the war and how Japanese remember it, and the importance of acting for peace today. Next week: Understorey brings you the story of three Western Australians who were at Nagasaki, the day the bomb dropped.
