Understorey- Election Special Part 2

Wednesday 4th September / presented by Elizabeth PO’ Adrian Glamorgan

Keli Yen from Taiwan is the convenor of the Asia-Pacific Greens Network, visiting Western Australia this week to observe our federal election, part of an AusAID project that links regional political parties. Keli introduces us to some of the challenges facing Taiwan – including how an indigenous group was promised a cannery on its island and got a nuclear waste dump instead! – and international cooperation between green anti-nuclear activists in Mongolia (a uranium producer like Australia), Korea, Japan and Taiwan.

Senator Scott Ludlam from the Greens reflects on what he believes were the major gains for the environment in the last parliament, achieved through negotiation and cross-party cooperation, and what could happen if there’s a change of government on Saturday.
