University Sexual Harassment Survey Under Criticism

A Human Right’s Commission survey that charts the extent of sexual assault and harassment at Australian universities has been called  “ineffective and insensitive”.

The survey was requested after 39 Australian universities wanted to gain a larger look into the nature, prevalence and types of sexual misconduct being conducted on campuses.

But RMIT University Justice and Criminal Studies Researcher Dr Anastasia Powell says the survey is too specific and narrow to be effective, with the survey only targeting currently enrolled students and not those who left university from sexual harassment and assault.

Dr Powell’s not alone in her criticism.

Former Human Right’s Commission community award winner Nina Funnell has called the research “grossly unethical”.
