Whilst it’s absolutely free to tune into us at any time you want (and you can even listen to any program at any time thanks to our website), it costs about $18,000 a week to run the station.
And, as well as those expenses, we have to budget for things like upgrades to broadcast and transmission equipment, upkeep of our premises, website maintenance and developments in digital radio.
Now, RTRFM is a not-for-profit, community organization with a mission to provide an alternative to mainstream radio stations. We have no commercial agenda and don’t playlist – presenters choose their own music. So, we rely on you to help keep alternative & local music and arts, current affairs, environmental, Indigenous & women’s issues and much, much more on the air.
There are 4 main ways RTRFM raises money to survive:
- You can become a subscriber. Your subscription fee provides the money that directly keeps RTRFM on-air. In return, you not only get to help keep the station going, but you also get a host of rewards such as eligibility for on-air giveaways & competitions, discounted or free entry into RTRFM events.
- You can also support the station by making a tax deductible donation to RTRFM simply by going to our Shop page. Donations make us, and you, feel good. All donations over $2 are tax deductible and the amount is completely up to you.
- Businesses, Not for Profits, community organizations, government, artists and musicians can sponsor the station. You can find all the benefits of this on our Sponsorship page. You can also be added to our business directory, linking your business to the world of RTRFM listeners.
- RTRFM holds a number of fundraising events throughout the year. Most notable are our annual local music festival In The Pines, our electronic music event Seriously Sound System, the annual Quiz night and the Fremantle Winter Music Festival.
It is these supporters of RTRFM who keeps us alive. It is your station as much as it is ours. If you are one, thank you, if you aren’t, please do come on board.
