Electro-folk-pop worldexplosms – a mishmash of Josh’s experimental world-fusion electronica and Joni’s melancholic folk-pop.
Being siblings, Joni and Josh grew up together but led pretty separate and different musical lives until 2009 when Josh featured Joni and some of her songs in a live collaboration with Melbourne pianist Gemma Turvey at a showcase gig at Kulcha. 'Joni in the Moon' was dreamed up in 2011 when Josh started arranging and producing Joni's songs in studio (and across continents!).
Joni - Schvendes, Radarmaker, Tucker-B's, Kučka, Felicity Groom, the natural environment in the Perth Hills, but mostly just the moon.
In 2013 two of the band's songs received nominations for WAM Song of the Year - 'Dove Song' in the World category and 'Lil' Star' in the Folk category.
In 2012/13, the music video to 'Dove Song' featured in the WAM showcase.
The band is currently gearing up to release their debut album 'Sorrow Trees' in Jan 2014. Aside from that, Josh teaches percussion and music production, is producing and composing for the film Factory 293, writing music for various dance companies, and creating Beat Salad, an iPad game for children learning rhythm. When not single parenting her two daughters, Joni plays with Perth pianist Tara John as a voice/piano duo, 'DuckDuck,' performing unique arrangements of Joni in the Moon material around town. In the fits and spurts of time she gets free from parenting, Joni pretty much spends most of her time alone, writing new material on her harmonium and learning how to use Ableton.
