Distinctly dreamy and uplifting electronica; with moments of vocal fragility and dense clouds of synths, juxtaposed against system shaking subs and bass growls. Best described as a mixture of ambient and experimental electronics, with a focus on melody, alternative time signatures, unusual textures and timbres, and moving evolving arrangements.
During their studies at WAAPA Matt and fellow student Louise Penman formed 'Lilt', a live electronic outfit mixing Matt's electronic production style combined with Louise Penman’s soaring vocals and ear for strong melody. Lilt have had several tracks featured on JJJ Unearthed as well as on JJJ on Home and Hosed, Sound Lab, and regular programming, played sold out shows at Villa and had over 250 through the door of Geisha for their EP launch, as well as having the RTRFM feature EP and Drum Media EP of the week for their debut release ‘Swim’. Long story short, Matt heard Louises voice on a composition she wrote (Swim), and asked if he could mix the rest of the track. They worked together, were happy with the results, and knew they were on to something exciting!
I would say the most recognisable name at this point is Flume - they played at a sold out Villa show mid last year a few months before he exploded in to the mainstream.
Playing a sold out Geisha for our EP launch - intimate and a great thrill to have so many people come support then. RTRFM Sound System, as well as their first big gig at Villa supporting Flume. Hearing their songs played on Triple J and RTRFM is definitely a huge highlight for them.
Working on new tracks to release as singles, getting some videos done, trying to introduce a drummer in to the live act. They also have a huge international support show coming up that cant announce yet, but are very excited about.
Only other previous gigging band was Flesh of the Lotus - an instrumental funk outfit formed for a gig for SBS Movie Show. They had a run at National Campus Bands and got runner up for the state in either 06 or 07. Band mates have moved in to play in Emerald City and Fools of April.
