RTRFM Youth in Radio Project
The RTRFM Youth in Radio is funded by Community Broadcasting Foundation and enables young, exciting, budding journalists the chance to report on their world.
Young volunteer participants produce and present news bulletins each weekday from 6am – 12pm as well as produce and create stories for our flagship talks programs The Mag and Artbeat, which are broadcast live each weekday from 9am-11am. Stories produced and created by Youth In Radio participants are also podcast on rtrfm.com.au
These reports tell the stories of young people doing amazing things within their community and are then broadcast on RTRFM and posted onto the Youth in Radio Project page. It can be about the little old lady next door who has two hundred cats but only one dog or the young rugby player who refuses to believe he will never play rugby again. The project aims to build confidence, journalism and production skills and provide a powerful platform to Perth’s young reporters.
Working alongside other community organisations such as the YMCA, SEITA, CareerLink and universities; UWA, Curtin, Notre Dame and Edith Cowan, the RTRFM Youth in Radio Project aims to give all people a voice and highlight the amazing things young people can achieve and are achieving. The stories are pre-recorded and played throughout the RTRFM program grid. The reporters have brought a uniqueness to the station and allowed us to connect with our younger, and older, listeners.
