Deep City – The Birth of The Miami Sound (USA)

‘Deep City’ trailer from Knight Foundation on Vimeo.

Tuesday, 9 December – 8:30pm

Luna Outdoor

This film is an inspirational story that explores the early days of 1960’s soul music in South Florida, the pioneers of that era and their lasting contributions to the broader American musical landscape.

Deep City Records was the brainchild of Producers Willie Clarke and Johnny Pearsall. Both from the mean streets of Miami, this duo, honed their business and musical skills learned in college at Florida A & M University. They would go on to change the face of soul music in Miami and eventually the country by creating the first black-owned record label in Florida.

Deep City: The Birth of the Miami Sound is a 60-minute documentary that delves into the life and times of these ground-breaking producers, their label, the unique artists they spawned and the remarkable era in which they accomplished it.

Running time: 60 minutes.
Produced by Chad Tingle, Dennis Scholl, Marlon Johnson.
This screening is an Australian premiere.

Concession/RTRFM & Luna Subscribers – $14.50
Film begins at 8:30pm
