PERTH RECLINK COMMUNITY CUP RETURNS FOR ITS THIRD YEAR FOR AN AFL GAME TO END ALL AFL GAMES.
NEWHOUNDS (COMMUNITY MEDIA) V BANDGROPERS (WA MUSICIANS)
The Perth Reclink Community Cup, a much loved Aussie Rules charity match that pits musicians against media held annually across Australia is back for its third year in WA, this year taking place on the hollowed grounds of Fremantle Oval, Sunday September 3rd.
With humble beginnings that steadily grew to a highly successful regular event on Melbourne’s annual calendar, the Community Cups’ achievements are now being replicated around the country with community radio stations and local media in each state will join together to go head to head with local musicians in what is a family friendly, entertaining day of grassroots football and live music both on and off the field
“We are delighted to once again work with our talented Organising Committees across Australia to bring the Reclink Community Cup to the streets of your town. This year’s theme is all about community, the importance of social inclusion, celebrating diversity and community belonging. We are reminded that the streets of your town are the streets of our town.” said John Ballis, CEO, Reclink Australia.
This year the Reclink Community Cup also welcomes a new national event sponsor Blundstone Australia, who are delighted and proud to be involved as a national partner: “The partnership with the Reclink Community Cup is a great fit for the homegrown, iconic brand Blundstone and leverages our support of Australian sports, music and arts for a good cause. We’re excited to kick off the National Tour and wish all the teams the best with their training,” said Adam Blake, Blundstone Global Head – Brand, Design and Community Engagement.
With teams made up of fearless Perth musicians (the aptly named Bandgropers), featuring members of Dream Rimmy, Eskimo Joe, Sugar Army, Ruby Boots and Koi Child and community media and music industry types (The Newshounds), players will puff and pant back and forth across Fremantle Oval, Fremantle, in a game which is part fun, part serious hilarity.
The event will raise funds for Reclink Australia, who use sport and the arts to enhance the lives of people experiencing disadvantage. Reclink supports some of the community’s most vulnerable and isolated people – those experiencing mental illness, disability, homelessness, substance abuse, addiction, and social and economic hardship. With a network of over 300 member agencies around the country, Reclink Australia encourages participation in physical activity in a population group under-represented in mainstream sport, recreational programs and associations. In the past 12 months Reclink Australia provided more than 100,000 individual opportunities to participate in over 10,000 sport and arts activities around the country.
Curated by community radio station, RTRFM and the Perth Organising Committee, featuring Tom Fisher, Jason Cleary, Stuart MacLeod, Chris Dart-Kelly and Chris Wheeldon, plus promotional help from PILERATS and VAM MEDIA, all profits going to Reclink Australia.
The Perth Reclink Community Cup is proudly supported by Blundstone Australia, Mountain Goat, Otherside Brewery, Rosemount Hotel, Clancy’s Fish Pub, South Fremantle Football Club, Oztix, Reclink Australia, Stage Left Design and your home of footy RTRFM 92.1
There’ll be tasty food stalls and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages on offer.
