RTRFM is an independent community-owned media company presenting a diverse range of music and talks programs with a heavy emphasis on supporting Western Australian cultural creativity. 73% of the most-played tracks on the station in 2019 were by Western Australian artists. With its heritage stemming from Perth’s first FM radio station, 6UWA, RTRFM has been a crucial part of Australia’s media landscape for over 40 years.
In short, RTRFM exists to amplify the stories of Western Australians, within our own communities and to the world at large.
As we witness the challenges of both concentration of ownership of mainstream media organisations and the atomisation of voices through social media platforms, RTRFM can have an important role to play in sharing cultural and social knowledge. Currently, RTRFM’s combined broadcast channels reach over 300,000 loyal listeners per month across Perth and globally via digital streams.
The Board of RTRFM has a strategic vision to expand the organisation’s mandate to become a sophisticated digital content production company, enhancing its online capacity and reach beyond the limitations of terrestrial broadcasting. We are looking for someone to lead the company to this future, a person who understands the ethical basis from which the company founds its position in the media landscape.
RTRFM is a lean, fast-paced and diverse community organisation, integrating both employees and volunteers. As General Manager, you will be accountable for all aspects of RTRFM’s ongoing operations, and be responsible for the performance of the organisation. You’ll place a particular focus on building recognition of the RTRFM brand by developing a diverse communication strategy that engages our key stakeholder groups – RTRFM members, subscribers, listeners and sponsors – and be prepared to play a hands-on role in its delivery. You’ll be a natural builder of communities. You’re far from a technology expert, but you know how to identify a need and be good at leveraging technology at hand. You’ll be adept by shaping the future of content and leading a team of creators to continuously improve RTRFMs broadcast and digital content. You’ll use the expertise around you to ensure compliance with community broadcast codes of conduct, media laws and RTRFM’s own self-set standards.
Please apply by sharing your resume and one page (max) on your fit for this exciting opportunity, by 5 pm on August 24th 2020.
