I rise early and play tunes and talk to people and have a laugh. I’m a happy Dad with two delightful daughters and an incredible partner who loves life and all the things it brings.
How did you become involved?
I was lying on the sand on a beach staring at the stars listening to the radio when magically it switched to 6UVSFM and some weird and wonderful sounds filled my head. I investigated the matter the next day and volunteered my time at a place I’ve never left.
If stuck on Mars, what five albums could you not go without?
- The Stone Roses – The Stone Roses
- Belle and Sebastian – The Boy With the Arab Strap
- The Posies – Frosting on the Beater
- Sloan – One Chord to Another
- Teenage Fanclub – Songs from Northern Britain
What is the best thing about being involved with the station?
Independence and autonomy. I get away with the most outrageous stuff! It’s also brilliant being involved with a place that I truly admire. I espouse the station’s ethos and values honestly and openly because they are right and true, and that’s immensely satisfying. Not everyone gets to do that in the big bad world.
What is the strangest thing that has happened to you in the RTRFM studio?
Ah man, way too many. I’ll write a book one day and then consult on a mini-series in which a Daddo brother will play me.
If you could present a show that is not your own, what would it be? Why?
Golden Apples of the Sun – incredible program that consistently delivers on its promise to take the listener on a trip. I dream of being as musically knowledgeable as the presenters on our Sunday arvo space jam show.
