13 reasons why…did you have to go there?

Friday 28th April / presented by Jane Hebiton

13 Reasons Why is the American TV series that has been met with both widespread popularity and concern since its release.

Played by Perth actress, Katherine Langford, the series follows the story of high school teen Hannah Baker who takes her own life after a series of unpleasant events occurred by her peers, family and others. The events are retold by Hannah using 13 tape recordings to help explain her reasoning for suicide; as well as making those she believes are responsible, aware of their actions.

While many viewers have been hooked, the mental health community has expressed strong concern regarding the portrayal of suicide and depression that it presents. Joining Artbeat to discuss the issue is Curtin University Sexologist Associate Professor Sharyn Burns

Artbeat would like to add that if you feel you ever need to talk to someone about how you’re feeling; call LIFELINE on 13 11 14
