Perth Heritage Days (October 14th-15th 2017)

Thursday 5th October / presented by Chris Mason

The Perth Heritage Days for 2017 has come around once again, and this year marks the 60th Anniversary of the Raine Medical Research Foundation. Creator of said foundation, Mary Raine, had a remarkable life. She was born in England, arrived to WA in 1905, and by working in amongst hotels she earned £1.10.0d per week. By frugal living she managed to save £1.7.6d. and from these savings, Mary Raine built a vast real estate empire and ultimately created the Medical Research Foundation. It’s a remarkable story of a determined woman who left a legacy for the betterment of others.

Lyn Ellis, Director of The Raine Foundation, who is also co-presenting of the talk "The Story of Mary Raine" that's on during the Perth Heritage Days. Lyn spoke to RTR today to tell us more about the upcoming exhibition.
