A Call To Action

Tuesday 17th March / presented by Em Burrows

About 1300 kilometres east of Port Headland and more than 850 kilometres west of Alice Springs, lies the Aboriginal outstation of Kiwirrkurra.

Home to around 200 people, the community is one of the most remote in Australia.

Outstations like Kiwirrkurra provide people with a valuable connection to their country and traditions, away from the disfunction of the larger centres.

But the remoteness of the communities brings a range of additional disadvantages, and the State and Federal Governments have decided they’re no longer prepared to foot the bill of delivering essential services – effectively closing up to 150 communities across the state.

SoBlak representatives Jodie Bell and Mitch Torres joined Em to talk about their upcoming Call To Action in the Perth CBD, and what you can do to change the government’s mind.
