Aussie Art in High Demand

Friday 3rd March / presented by Jane Hebiton

The small to medium arts sector is a great asset to the states economy.

A new report by the National Association for the Visual Arts shows S-2-M arts organisations attracted a paying audience of over 1.2-million people in 2013, and well over 600-thousand for for free events.

The sector employed 1,653 people and engaged with 1,757 volunteers in the same period, despite the federal governments 55 percent decline in per-capita arts spending since 2008.

The report is calling for the federal arts budget to be doubled.

The Australia Institute's Director of Economists at Large and Research DirectorRod Campbell spoke to Artbeat.
