Boycotts, Brandid, & Artistic Resistance

Controversy continues due to the funding arrangement of the Sydney Biennale with Transfield, a contractor involved in running Manus Island and Nauru Detention Centres.

Unhappy with the arrangement and unable to reconcile their beliefs with it, nine artists withdrew from the event in protest over business links.

Local artists and activists meet tonight to discuss artists taking action on refugee rights and political campaigns in light of the Biennale Boycott and Minister Brandis’s funding ultimatum.

The meeting will also formulate a plan of action and add further voice to the resistance against Australian human rights abuses.
