BPD Awareness Week (October 1st-7th)

Thursday 5th October / presented by Chris Mason

This week is BPD Awareness week (Oct 1st-Oct 7th), it aims to heighten the awareness of BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder), as well as to promote resilience, hope and recovery. BPD is a pervasive disorder that can cause a lot of suffering as it includes difficulty with emotion regulation. The disorder also carries a high risk of suicide and requires accurate diagnosis along with targeted treatment to its patients...

With heavy costs or a wait list that can run for 12 months at least, Lifeline WA is currently working along with a group of people who hold a special interest in, or have experience in BPD, to explore what treatment(s) can be offered within the community. Carissa Wright, an individual who has been diagnosed with BPD and now works in the community for systematic change…and Sharan Karas from the Mental Illness Fellowship of WA joined us in the studio today to shed more light on the issues surrounding this illness, and what we can do to make a difference.

For further information talk to your GP, local health professional or someone you trust...OR if you need immediate assistance, call Lifeline on 13 11 14.
