Bush Walks Afflicted By Excessive Summer Heat

As the weather warms up in Western Australia with not a cloud in the sky, many people have been taking the opportunity to see what our Bushland has to offer by going on a Bush Walk.

However, recent research from Edith Cowan University and the NCIS (National Coronial Information System), has revealed that there are risks when it comes to taking up bush walking during Summer for young men and tourists, with forty deaths between 2001-2018 were identified to exercising in the heat.

On The Record presenter Fiona Bartholomaeus took the opportunity to catch up and chat with Dr. Lauren Fortington, who is a Senior Research fellow from Edith Cowan University.

Together they sit down to discuss the associated signs when it comes to heat-induced illness, including why men are specifically more affected than women, along with the appropriate measures that can be taken accordingly to exercise safely whilst Bush Walking.
