Call For The End Of Child Detention

Under Australia’s system of mandatory immigration detention, all non-citizens in Australia without a valid visa must be detained. This includes children.

The Australian Human Rights Commission is conducting it’s second inquiry into children being held in immigration detention.

The previous inquiry reported that children held inside detention compounds endure ''enormous mental distress'' and should only ever be a last resort. 10 years following this first inquiry, a significant number of children are still detained in immigration detention.

Christian leaders around Australia have united in a movement called “Love Makes a Way” and aim to recognise the issue of children in detention centres through peaceful protests.

Baptist care Leader in Mission and Service’s, Stephen Hall talked to Jane Hebiton about this matter of national concern…
