Cancer Council’s Curation Crisis

Wednesday 10th April / presented by Fiona Bartholomaeus

Almost a week since Labor’s budget reply speech, and with an election just over the horizon, it was little surprise that Labour Leader Bill Shorten promised big things, a key tenant of the opposition’s economic plan revolving around subsidies towards cancer treatment.

But if the Cancer Council estimates one third of cancers are simply preventable by not smoking, eating healthy, working out and keeping a general outlook of good health, why do so-called 'sin industries' exist and thrive despite their overt health risks, sometimes even advertised by the product itself?

Curtin University School of Psychology Professor Simone Pettigrew joined RTRFM to discuss these industries' roles in cancer prevention and curation.
