CCTV: Protecting us or Invading our privacy?

Monday 24th June / presented by Naomi Baltyn

The City of Perth has recently rolled out facial recognition systems in CCTV cameras.

This is the beginning of a 12-month trial of the technology; With 30 cameras being placed in East Perth, however, only 3 cameras with the technology can be used at one time.

The introduction of this technology all over the globe has been met with criticism with many worried at the prospect of being watched and tracked by storage of our individual unique data already stored by the government; like photos on our driver’s licenses, passports or even pictures on social media.

Is this technology protecting us or invading our privacy?
